As a student, the most difficult thing is not to get an assignment well-done or to do an excellent presentation. Rather, it is not easy for students to pay attention to every lecture and do revision after class, because most of us spend a large number of time on preparing assignment and presentation. You can take it with you to every lesson. Just turn on the recorder then you can have the lesson as many times as you want in the future. You may listen to the audio files before every test and exam. You will find this helpful because the audio files do not require you any space. You can store all of them into your computer. It is better than the traditional notebook.

But the disadvantage is that it is hard for you to find out the main point of every lecture. For example, you want to revise the IPA symbols. You know it is taught in week five. When you play the audio file, you have two options. First, listen to the file from beginning to the end. Second, you keep on rewind and forward the file in order to find out the related part. Both of them may take you certain time.

Another option is to record the lecture by digital camera. Although it still has the disadvantage stated above, it brings you convenience. You can not only listen to the voice, but also watch what is written on the board. It helps enhance your understanding.

Of course, before you choose any of the above two options, you have to ask your lecturer's permission. Some lecturers do not like being recorded in class because they may feel nervous.
